Construction of Cam Ranh International Airport

2004

Cam Ranh International Airport serves the coastal city of Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa province, southern Vietnam. It stands on the site of the former Cam Ranh air base, a major military facility used by the United States during the Vietnam War and later by Soviet and Russian forces. The base's sheltered bay and long runway made it a valuable strategic location. After the military airfield was converted to civilian use, it replaced the older Nha Trang airport as the main gateway for the region's beach resorts. Its terminals have since been expanded to handle growing domestic and international tourism.
