Premiere of Game of Thrones

from 17 April 2011 to 19 May 2019

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy series produced by HBO and adapted from George R. R. Martin's novels A Song of Ice and Fire by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. It follows noble families who fight for control of the Iron Throne of the fictional continent of Westeros, while a supernatural threat gathers beyond a great wall of ice in the north. Filmed in Northern Ireland, Croatia, Iceland, Spain and elsewhere, it was praised for its production scale and for killing off major characters unexpectedly. It ran for eight seasons and won a record number of Emmy Awards for a drama series. Its final season divided audiences, but the show's success led to prequel series, including House of the Dragon in 2022.
