2003

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, published in June 2003, is the fifth novel in J. K. Rowling's series and the longest of the seven books. Following the return of Voldemort at the end of the previous volume, the Ministry of Magic refuses to believe it, and the Ministry sends Dolores Umbridge to Hogwarts, where she imposes strict control on the school. Harry forms a secret student group, Dumbledore's Army, to learn defensive magic, and the Order of the Phoenix, a secret society opposed to Voldemort, is re-established. The book ends with a battle at the Ministry in which Harry's godfather Sirius Black is killed. It was released with midnight bookshop events and set records for first-day sales, and a film adaptation followed in 2007.
