Greta Thunberg was born on 3 January 2003 in Stockholm. A Swedish climate activist, Thunberg began in August 2018 to sit outside the Swedish parliament every school day with a sign calling for stronger climate action. Her protest inspired the worldwide Fridays for Future school strike movement, with millions of students joining demonstrations in 2019. She spoke at the United Nations and at climate conferences, and in 2019 she sailed across the Atlantic by yacht to avoid flying. Time magazine named her Person of the Year that same year, as the youngest person to receive the title. She is open about being on the autism spectrum. Admirers praise her for putting climate change on the agenda, while critics have disputed her tactics.
