Launch of Myspace

2003

Myspace is an American social networking website that was launched in 2003 in Santa Monica, California, by employees of the internet marketing company eUniverse, including Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe. It let users create customisable profile pages, and it gave a special role to music, so that bands could share songs with fans. By 2005 and 2006 it was the most visited social network in the world. News Corporation bought it in 2005 for 580 million dollars. It then lost ground to Facebook, and its audience shrank sharply, and in 2011 it was sold for a fraction of the price paid. It later became a smaller music-focused site.
