How I Met Your Mother was an American sitcom that ran on the CBS network, created by Carter Bays and Craig Thomas. The show was framed as a story told in the year 2030 by Ted Mosby, played by Josh Radnor, who explains to his children how he met their mother. Its other principal characters were Ted's friends Marshall, Lily, Robin and Barney, played by Jason Segel, Alyson Hannigan, Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris. The series became known for its non-linear storytelling, running gags and catchphrases.
