Oklahoma City bombing

19 April 1995

The Oklahoma City bombing was a domestic terrorist attack in which a truck bomb exploded in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City. It killed 168 people, including many children in a day-care centre, and injured hundreds more, and it remains the deadliest act of domestic terrorism in United States history. The attackers, Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, were motivated by anger at the federal government, particularly over the Waco siege and the Ruby Ridge incident. McVeigh was convicted and executed in 2001, and Nichols received life sentences. A memorial now stands on the site.
