Creation of Puppy Linux

2003

Puppy Linux is a lightweight Linux distribution created by the Australian developer Barry Kauler. It is designed to run well on old and low-powered computers, since it can load itself entirely into the computer's memory, which makes it fast, and the boot medium can then be removed. The basic system is only a few hundred megabytes in size, and includes a set of simple applications for the web, office work and multimedia. It can be run from a CD or USB drive without installing, and settings can be saved on the drive. Many variants, called puplets, have been made by the community, based on other distributions such as Ubuntu and Slackware.
