Societa Sportiva Calcio Napoli is an Italian professional football club from Naples. Its history began in 1926 with the founding of the Associazione Calcio Napoli, and the club soon became a symbol of southern Italian football. Its greatest era came in the 1980s with the Argentine star Diego Maradona, who led the team to its first Serie A titles in 1987 and 1990 and to the UEFA Cup in 1989. Napoli won the league again in 2023, ending a long wait for a third championship. The club plays at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, named in honour of the player after his death in 2020, and is supported by a passionate fan base in the city.
