Founding of Palermo F.C.

1900

Palermo F.C. is a football club from Palermo, the capital of Sicily, known for its pink and black colours. It was founded by British expatriates as the Anglo-Panormitan Athletic and Football Club and later took the name of the city. Under the owner Maurizio Zamparini it reached Serie A in 2004 and produced players such as Luca Toni, Edinson Cavani and Javier Pastore, and it played the Coppa Italia final in 2011. Financial collapse in 2019 led to the club's refoundation, and it restarted in the lower leagues. In 2022 it was acquired by the City Football Group, which owns Manchester City, and it plays at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.
