Founding of Juventus FC

1 November 1897

Juventus is an Italian football club from Turin, founded by a group of schoolboys at the Massimo d'Azeglio lyceum, who first called the team Sport-Club Juventus. The club originally played in pink shirts but adopted its black and white stripes in the early twentieth century. The Agnelli family, owners of Fiat, have controlled it since 1923, and under their ownership it became one of Italy's greatest teams. Juventus has won more Italian league titles than any other club and also many European trophies. It was relegated in 2006 as a result of the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal, but returned to the top flight after a year.
