Founding of Newcastle United F.C.

9 December 1892

Newcastle United was formed by the merger of two local clubs, Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End, which played in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne in the north-east of England. The merged club took over West End's ground, St James' Park, which has been its home ever since. Newcastle won four league championships in the early twentieth century and the FA Cup several times, including three times in the 1950s, but then went many decades without a major domestic title. The supporters, known as the Toon Army, are among the most loyal in English football. The club was taken over by a Saudi-led consortium in 2021, and in 2025 it won the League Cup.
