Founding of Lublin Triangle

28 July 2020

The Lublin Triangle is a regional alliance of Poland, Lithuania and Ukraine, which was set up at a meeting of their foreign ministers in the Polish city of Lublin. It is named after the Union of Lublin of 1569, which created the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, a state to which much of today's Ukraine also belonged. The format was created to strengthen cooperation among the three countries in politics, security, energy and culture, and in particular to support Ukraine's path toward integration with the European Union and NATO. It has been an important forum since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and the three states work together in supporting Ukraine and in coordinating their policy on regional security.
