Apple Inc. was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in California to sell the Apple I, a circuit board computer that Wozniak had designed. Wayne sold his small share back within weeks. The company's Apple II, launched in 1977, was one of the first successful mass-produced personal computers, and the Macintosh of 1984 brought a graphical interface to a wide public. Jobs left in 1985 and returned in 1997, when Apple was in trouble, leading a revival that produced the iMac, iPod, iPhone in 2007 and iPad. After Jobs's death in 2011, Tim Cook became chief executive, and Apple has since become one of the most valuable companies in the world.
