The Mineirao, officially Estadio Governador Magalhaes Pinto, is a large football stadium in Belo Horizonte, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. It was opened in the mid-1960s and for decades was the home ground of the city's rival clubs, Cruzeiro and Atletico Mineiro. The stadium was rebuilt for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and a new roof and modernised stands were added. It is remembered internationally as the site of the 2014 semifinal in which Germany beat Brazil by seven goals to one, a result that stunned the host nation. The Mineirao is also known for the artificial lake of Pampulha beside it and for the sculpted architecture of the surrounding modernist district.
