The Big Bang Theory is an American sitcom created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady for the CBS network. It follows a group of friends, including the physicists Sheldon Cooper and Leonard Hofstadter and their neighbour Penny, with the engineer Howard Wolowitz and the astrophysicist Raj Koothrappali, who share an affection for science fiction, comics and games. Jim Parsons won several Emmy Awards for playing Sheldon. The show ran for twelve seasons and became one of the most-watched comedies on American television, helping to popularise a cheerful image of scientists. A spin-off series, Young Sheldon, was produced from 2017.
