Construction of Abeno Harukas

7 March 2014

Abeno Harukas is a skyscraper in the Tennoji district of Osaka, which was opened in March 2014 by the railway company Kintetsu. It is a mixed-use building about 300 meters tall that houses a department store, an art museum, offices, a hotel and an observation deck, and it stands above Osaka Abenobashi Station. When it opened it was the tallest building in Japan. The name Harukas comes from an old Japanese verb meaning to brighten, and the project was a major redevelopment of the area. Later skyscrapers in Tokyo have overtaken it in height.
