Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was a scheduled flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing that disappeared on 8 March 2014 with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board. The Boeing 777 stopped communicating with air traffic control soon after leaving Malaysian airspace, and military radar and satellite data showed it had turned back and crossed the Malay Peninsula, before flying on for hours, probably into the southern Indian Ocean. A large international search by Australia, Malaysia and China failed to find the main wreckage, though parts of the aircraft, including a wing flap, washed ashore on Indian Ocean coasts. Investigators were unable to establish why the plane diverted, and the mystery remains one of the biggest in the history of aviation.
