Air India Flight 171 was a scheduled passenger flight from Ahmedabad in the Indian state of Gujarat to London Gatwick, operated by a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. The aircraft crashed shortly after take-off, hitting a built-up area near the airport that included a medical college hostel. Almost everyone on board was killed, along with a number of people on the ground, and there was a single survivor among the passengers. It was one of the deadliest aviation accidents in India in decades and the first fatal accident involving a 787. Indian investigators released a preliminary report focusing on the aircraft's engine fuel controls, and the full cause and the reasons behind the events were still being examined.
