2025 United States strikes on Iranian nuclear sites

22 June 2025

In June 2025, during a war between Israel and Iran, the United States carried out air strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities: the underground enrichment plant at Fordow, the enrichment site at Natanz and the nuclear technology centre at Isfahan. B-2 stealth bombers dropped 30,000-pound GBU-57 bunker-busting bombs, the only conventional weapon thought capable of reaching deeply buried targets, and submarine-launched cruise missiles also hit Isfahan. President Donald Trump announced the attack, which the US named Operation Midnight Hammer. Iran retaliated with a missile attack on a US base in Qatar, and a ceasefire between Israel and Iran followed within days. Assessments of how far the strikes set back Iran's nuclear programme differed.
