Operation Spiderweb was a Ukrainian military operation in which drones were launched against Russian air bases deep inside Russia, targeting aircraft used for long-range strikes on Ukraine. According to Ukrainian officials, the Security Service of Ukraine spent more than a year preparing it, smuggling small drones into Russia hidden in wooden cabins carried on trucks, and then launching them remotely from close to the airfields. Ukraine said that dozens of strategic bombers and other aircraft were hit, while Russia acknowledged damage but gave different figures. The operation drew attention because of its distance from the front line, and it was widely described as a major intelligence and technological achievement.
