Actor Awards

1995

The Actor Awards are annual awards for performances in film and television, presented by SAG-AFTRA, the union that was formed by the merger of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. They were known for most of their history as the Screen Actors Guild Awards. A distinctive feature is that the winners are chosen by the union's own members, the actors themselves, and the awards include the category for an outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture, which has no equivalent at the Oscars. The statuette, called The Actor, depicts the masks of comedy and tragedy. Because of the overlap between the voters and members of the Academy, the results are often watched as a predictor of the Oscars.
