Typhoon Haiyan

from 3 November 2013 to 11 November 2013

Typhoon Haiyan, known in the Philippines as Yolanda, was one of the most powerful tropical cyclones ever recorded at landfall. It crossed the central Philippines in early November 2013, striking Samar and Leyte with extreme winds and a devastating storm surge that destroyed much of the city of Tacloban. More than six thousand people died, and millions were displaced, with many coastal communities flattened. The scale of the disaster led to a large international relief effort, though delivery of aid was hampered by damage to roads and airports. Haiyan later weakened and made landfall in Vietnam and southern China.
