Steven Universe is an American animated series created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network, and the first on the channel to be created solely by a woman. It follows Steven, a boy who is half human and half Gem, an alien being, who lives in the seaside town of Beach City and learns to use magical powers with the Crystal Gems, a group of warriors who protect the Earth. The show combined humour with emotional storytelling and many original songs, and it was widely praised for its representation of LGBTQ characters and relationships. It ran for five seasons and was followed by a feature-length film and the epilogue series Steven Universe Future.
