Publication of The Tales of Beedle the Bard

4 December 2008

The Tales of Beedle the Bard is a collection of five fairy tales by J. K. Rowling, set in the wizarding world of her Harry Potter books. In the final novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Albus Dumbledore leaves a copy to Hermione Granger, and the story of the Three Brothers, which tells of the Deathly Hallows, becomes important. Rowling first made seven handwritten copies, and one was sold at auction to raise money for charity. The public edition presents the stories with commentary by Dumbledore, in the style of a scholarly annotation. Profits from the book went to the children's charity Lumos, which Rowling founded.
