Pornhub is an adult video-sharing website, started in Montreal and operated by a company later known as MindGeek and now as Aylo. It is modelled on mainstream video-sharing sites, allowing users to upload and view videos, and became one of the most visited websites in the world. In 2020 the site faced criticism over the presence of illegal material, after a newspaper report, and the payment companies Visa and Mastercard stopped processing payments for it. It then removed millions of videos from unverified uploaders and tightened controls on uploads. Several countries and US states have introduced laws requiring age verification for adult sites, and Pornhub has blocked access in some of them.
