Release of Team Fortress 2

10 October 2007

Team Fortress 2 is a multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Valve, released as part of the compilation The Orange Box, which also contained Half-Life 2 and Portal. It is a sequel to the earlier Team Fortress, which began as a mod for Quake and then Half-Life. Two teams of players, each choosing from nine classes with distinct abilities, compete on objective-based maps. Its cartoon-like visual style and humorous characters, such as the Heavy and the Spy, made it stand out from realistic shooters. Valve continued to update the game for many years and made it free to play in 2011, adding hats and other items that players could trade, which contributed to the development of in-game economies.
