The Paris attacks of 13 November 2015 were a series of coordinated terrorist assaults by militants linked to the Islamic State group. Attackers detonated explosives outside the Stade de France during a football match, opened fire on cafes and restaurants in eastern Paris, and carried out a mass shooting and hostage-taking at the Bataclan concert hall. A total of 130 people were killed, most of them at the Bataclan. President Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency and France intensified air strikes against the group in Syria. Salah Abdeslam, the main surviving attacker, was captured in Brussels in 2016 and convicted in a trial that ended in 2022.
