Founding of AC Milan

16 December 1899

AC Milan was founded at the end of 1899 as the Milan Foot-Ball and Cricket Club by a group of English expatriates and Italians, among them the Englishman Herbert Kilpin, who became its captain and first star. The club adopted red and black as its colors, which gave rise to the nickname Rossoneri. It has played at the San Siro stadium, shared with Inter, since 1926. Silvio Berlusconi bought the club in 1986, and under managers such as Arrigo Sacchi and Fabio Capello it dominated Italian and European football. Milan has won the European Cup or Champions League seven times and many Italian league titles.
