Construction of Auditorio de Tenerife

26 September 2003

The Auditorio de Tenerife is a concert hall and arts complex in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on the waterfront of the Canary Islands' capital. It was designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, and its form is dominated by a soaring white concrete wing-like roof that curves above the main building, evoking a wave or a sail. It has become the emblem of the city. The main hall seats well over a thousand people, and the building is the home of the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra. It also hosts opera, ballet, congresses and other events, and a mosaic-covered surface finishes parts of the exterior.
