Release of Albanian Wikipedia

12 October 2003

The Albanian-language edition of Wikipedia was launched in the early period of the encyclopedia's expansion into other languages. Albanian is spoken in Albania and Kosovo, as well as by communities in North Macedonia, Montenegro, Greece, Italy and a large diaspora in Western Europe and the United States. The edition is written entirely by volunteers and hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation. Its articles cover world topics as well as local subjects such as Albanian history, geography, language and culture. Like many smaller editions, it has depended on a relatively small community of active editors, and has benefited from translation drives and local education projects.
