Premiere of The Walking Dead

from 8 October 2003 to 20 November 2022

The Walking Dead began as a comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, with art by Tony Moore and later Charlie Adlard, whose first issue appeared in October 2003. It follows a group of survivors after a zombie outbreak, led by the former sheriff Rick Grimes. The television adaptation, developed by Frank Darabont for the cable network AMC, premiered in October 2010 and became one of the most-watched series in American cable television. The show spread into a franchise with spin-offs such as Fear the Walking Dead, and it ended in November 2022 after eleven seasons. Its focus on the moral choices people make when society collapses was as important to its success as its horror elements.
