Michael Schumacher was born on 3 January 1969 in Hürth. A German racing driver, Schumacher won seven Formula One world championships, two with Benetton in 1994 and 1995 and five consecutive titles with Ferrari from 2000 to 2004. His success restored Ferrari to the top of the sport after a long drought, and he built a record of 91 Grand Prix victories that stood until it was surpassed by Lewis Hamilton. He retired in 2006, returned with Mercedes between 2010 and 2012, and then stepped away again. He was criticized at times for aggressive driving, but his fitness and technical feedback set new standards. In December 2013 he suffered a severe head injury in a skiing accident, and his family has kept his condition private.
