Matteo Renzi was born on 11 January 1975 in Florence. An Italian politician, Renzi led the Democratic Party, and served as Prime Minister of Italy from 2014 to 2016. Mayor of Florence from 2009, he was known as il Rottamatore, the scrapper, for his call to replace the old guard of the center-left. As the youngest prime minister in Italian history at that time, he introduced labor market reforms, known as the Jobs Act, and civil unions. He resigned after losing a referendum on constitutional reform in December 2016. He left the Democratic Party in 2019 to found his own, Italia Viva, and has remained a prominent figure in politics.
