The 2025 India–Pakistan conflict was a short but intense military confrontation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, which followed a militant attack on tourists at Pahalgam in Indian-administered Kashmir in April 2025. India blamed Pakistan-based groups, which Pakistan denied, and launched missile strikes on sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir under the name Operation Sindoor. Pakistan responded with drones, missiles and artillery, and there were air engagements and attacks on military bases on both sides, with civilians killed. After a few days, the two countries agreed to a ceasefire. Claims about the role of outside mediation, particularly by the United States, were disputed by India.
