The 2025 Pahalgam attack was a terrorist attack in the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, a tourist area of Indian-administered Kashmir, in which gunmen killed 26 people, nearly all of them tourists. It was among the deadliest attacks on civilians in the region in many years. A group called The Resistance Front, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, initially claimed responsibility, and later withdrew the claim. India accused Pakistan of supporting cross-border terrorism, which Pakistan denied, and the two countries exchanged diplomatic measures, including India's suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. In May, India launched missile strikes on sites in Pakistan, and several days of conflict followed before a ceasefire.
