United Airlines Flight 175

11 September 2001

United Airlines Flight 175 was a Boeing 767 on a scheduled flight from Boston to Los Angeles when it was hijacked by five men connected with al-Qaeda, as part of the September 11 attacks. The hijackers took over the plane shortly after takeoff, and Marwan al-Shehhi flew it into the south tower of the World Trade Center in New York, where it struck high up in the building. The crash was seen live on television by millions of viewers, since the north tower had already been struck about fifteen minutes before. All sixty-five people aboard the aircraft died, along with many in the tower, which collapsed less than an hour later. The attack changed world politics and led to the war in Afghanistan.
