Trinculo is a small irregular moon of Uranus that was discovered in August 2001 by an international team of astronomers using ground-based telescopes. It orbits the planet at a great distance in a retrograde direction, and as with the other irregular moons of Uranus it is believed to have been captured from elsewhere in the solar system. Trinculo is only about eighteen kilometers across. Like the other moons of Uranus, it is named after a character from Shakespeare, in this case the jester in The Tempest.
