Tham Luang cave rescue

10 July 2018

In June 2018, twelve boys from a youth football team and their assistant coach were trapped by rising water in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave system in northern Thailand. They were found alive by British divers after nine days, and an international rescue effort followed, with Thai Navy SEALs, cave divers from Britain, Australia and other countries, and thousands of volunteers. Rescuers pumped water out of the cave and then brought the boys out one by one, sedated and guided through flooded passages, over three days. A former Thai Navy diver, Saman Kunan, died during the preparations. The rescue received wide media attention worldwide, and later became the subject of films.
