Release of Ukrainian Wikipedia

30 January 2004

The Ukrainian edition of Wikipedia, in the Ukrainian language, was started in the early 2000s and grew slowly at first. Its development accelerated in the 2010s and especially after the Russian invasion of 2022, when interest in Ukraine's history and culture rose and many new contributors joined. It now contains several hundred thousand articles and is one of the larger editions in the Slavic languages. Volunteers write about Ukrainian history, literature, geography and current events, and the community has worked to document the war and to preserve cultural heritage.
