Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth novel in J. K. Rowling's series, published on 8 July 2000. It is set during the Triwizard Tournament, a contest between three wizarding schools which is held at Hogwarts, and in which Harry is mysteriously entered as a fourth champion despite being under the age limit. The book is longer and darker than its predecessors, and ends with the return of Lord Voldemort and the death of a student, Cedric Diggory, which changes the tone of the series. It was released in a huge print run and broke records at the time as the fastest-selling book in history. It won the Hugo Award for best novel and was adapted into a film in 2005.
