Founding of Nottingham Forest F.C.

1865

Nottingham Forest F.C. is an English football club with a claim to be one of the oldest professional football clubs in the world, formed in the nineteenth century by a group of shinty players who turned to football. It is based at the City Ground, on the bank of the River Trent. Forest won the FA Cup in the nineteenth century and again in 1959. The club's greatest period came under the manager Brian Clough and his assistant Peter Taylor, who led it to the league championship in 1978, and then to two successive European Cup victories, in 1979 and 1980. Forest returned to the Premier League in 2022 after more than two decades away.
