Founding of Liverpool F.C.

3 June 1892

Liverpool Football Club was founded by John Houlding after a dispute with the directors of Everton, who played at Anfield, which Houlding owned. When Everton moved to a new ground at Goodison Park, Houlding formed a new club to play at Anfield, which became its home. Liverpool joined the Football League soon afterwards and won the first of its league titles in 1901. Under managers Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and Kenny Dalglish the club became dominant in England and Europe from the 1960s to the 1980s, winning multiple European Cups. The club's later successes include the Champions League and a long-awaited league title, and it has one of the largest followings in world football.
