The International Skating Union is the international governing body of figure skating and speed skating, founded in the Netherlands in 1892, which makes it the oldest international winter sports federation. It started with delegates from several European countries, with the aim of setting common rules and organising world championships. In its early years, the first world championships of speed skating and of figure skating were held under its authority. Today the ISU is responsible for figure skating, speed skating and short track speed skating, including the Olympic competitions and the Grand Prix series, and its scoring system for figure skating was revised after a judging scandal at the 2002 Winter Olympics. It has its headquarters in Lausanne.
