The International Organization for Migration is an intergovernmental body that deals with migration and the movement of people. It was created in Brussels as a temporary committee to help resettle people displaced by the Second World War in Europe, and it was later renamed several times as its role changed. Over the decades it took on work with refugees, labour migrants and displaced persons in many parts of the world, helping with transport, health checks, return and reintegration. Its headquarters are in Geneva, and its member states have grown from a small group to well over a hundred. It became a related organization of the United Nations in 2016.
