Founding of 20th Century Studios

31 May 1935

20th Century Studios is an American film studio that dates back to the merger of Twentieth Century Pictures, founded by Darryl F. Zanuck and Joseph Schenck, with the Fox Film Corporation. As 20th Century Fox it produced many classic Hollywood films and later hits such as Star Wars, Alien and Avatar. It was bought by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation in the 1980s and later by The Walt Disney Company in 2019, after which Disney dropped the word Fox from the name. The studio's logo, with searchlights and a fanfare composed by Alfred Newman, is one of the best known in cinema. It continues as part of Disney's film business.
