Founding of The Walt Disney Company

16 October 1923

The Walt Disney Company began as a small animation studio in Hollywood set up by the brothers Walt and Roy Disney, after Walt had made a series of short films combining live action and cartoons. It became famous with the character Mickey Mouse and with the first full-length animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Over the decades it grew into a vast entertainment enterprise, opening Disneyland and extending into television, theme parks and publishing. Acquisitions such as Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox made it one of the world's largest media conglomerates.
