Origins of Allsvenskan

1924

Allsvenskan is the top tier of men's football in Sweden, and its first season was played in 1924 to 1925 replacing the earlier league competition known as Svenska Serien. Clubs such as Malmo FF, IFK Goteborg, AIK, IFK Norrkoping and Djurgarden have dominated its history. The champion qualifies for European competition, while the lowest-placed teams are relegated to the second tier. The league is one of the better-known in Scandinavia, and its champions are the unofficial national football champions of Sweden.
