EgyptAir Flight 804

19 May 2016

EgyptAir Flight 804 was a scheduled flight from Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport to Cairo, operated by an Airbus A320, which crashed into the Mediterranean Sea north of the Egyptian coast. All 66 people on board were killed. Automatic messages from the aircraft showed that smoke detectors had gone off in the lavatory and avionics area shortly before it disappeared from radar, indicating a fire. The wreckage was found at great depth, and the flight recorders were recovered. Investigators from Egypt and France disagreed for years over the cause, with Egyptian officials at first suggesting a possible bomb, while French investigators believed a fire in the cockpit was more likely.
