Silvio Berlusconi died on 12 June 2023 in Milan, aged 86. An Italian media entrepreneur and politician, Berlusconi built a business empire in construction, television and publishing through his holding company Fininvest, including the Mediaset networks and the football club AC Milan. In 1994 he entered politics and founded the centre-right party Forza Italia. He served as prime minister three times, in 1994, from 2001 to 2006 and from 2008 to 2011, making him one of the longest-serving heads of government in post-war Italy. His career was dogged by conflict-of-interest questions, corruption trials and scandals over his private life, including a tax fraud conviction in 2013. He resigned in 2011 during the sovereign debt crisis and died in Milan in 2023.
